PhraseTuner for iPhone and iPad

Find it on the App Store!

Phrase Tuner is a tuner with a memory! It listens to your instrument and saves your intontation data while the tuner is active. This is a great way to track your tuning while playing musical excerpts. Multi-instrumentalists will appreciate the features to categorize your data by instrument, timestamp and a customizable title. Intonation data can be analyzed, in music notation, by viewing notes as they were played, averaged and sorted.

MidiRotator for iPhone and iPad

Find it on the App Store!

MidiRotator is a MIDI harmony generator or rotator instrument. It creates harmony from a MIDI input note in a rotating mode. It is ideal for use with Electronic Wind Instruments.

The original voice plays and the other voices "rotate" through the pitch settings. This produces four output notes: the original voice plus the other three voices that rotate for each successive input note.

The three "rotating" pitch shifters will rotate - that is, a new input pitch will advance to the next rotating pitch. The app includes switches to activate the effect and enable running in background mode.

Chord Rotator

Find it on the App Store!

This app is a harmony generator or rotator instrument. It creates harmony from a single note in a rotating mode. One voice follows the input pitch at a fixed interval and the other voice "rotates" through the pitch shift settings. This produces three output notes: the original voice, a pitch-shifted voice at a fixed interval and a third voice that changes.

The "follow" pitch shifter follows your input voice at a fixed interval. The three "rotating" pitch shifters will rotate - that is, a new input pitch will advance to the next rotating pitch shifter. Set the mix balance to blend original input and effected signals. Analyzer speed adjusts the sensitivity of the signal processing.

This graphic helps explain the concept visually:

Chord Rotator Overview

This preset shown above sets the follow as an octave above (+12) and sets the three rotators as +7 (P5), +5 (P4) and +10 (M2). The first note played will trigger screenshot 1, the next note will trigger screenshot 2, the next note will trigger screenshot 3 and then the next note will cycle back to screenshot 1, ad infinitum.

dronology

Find it on the App Store!

dronology is a next-gen music practice assistant. It provides drones (constant, endless pitches, one or two voices) coupled with either metronome or percussion grooves. Everything is configurable: drones pitches and tempo can be changed in real time.

Since this app is a practice assistant, the focus is on getting you productive as efficiently as possible. The app includes hundreds of presets which will get you practicing quickly and keep you inspired for a long time. Presets are available in common and odd meters with a wide variety of grooves. Ah, one more thing: presets are available which just provide drone tones without metronome or percussion - which is the classic approach to practicing with drones.

dronology also includes sequences. These are presets that evolve over time, usually transposing one or both drone tones. These include cycle of fourths, cycle of fifths as well as other variations. We find these are really great for practicing scales as well as improvisation.

DronePlayer

Find it on the App Store!

DronePlayer provides one- and two-note drones with percussion tracks. Adjust pitch, tone, volume and tempo.

Single-note drones can be used to assist in improving intonation, studying scales and improvising melodies. Two-note drones can be used to assist ear training to develop your ears' abilities to accurately fill-in the harmonic gaps and improvise melodies.

Drone sequences can be used to isolate chord progressions and train your ears to hear their way through the sequence.
